About  the  name :

The inspiration came from my favorite book “Fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop café” by Fannie Flagg. This book tells a heart touching story about love, compassion, honesty, friendship and sailing through the struggles of life with an unbeatable spirit. Oh, and about food too! When I hear the words ‘fried green tomatoes’, they bring all those emotions up and remind me how wonderfully sweet life is!

Fried green tomato is also a comfort food, very close to the heart of anybody who’s grown up as a southerner. You think of this food, and you get a jolt of the associative memories of joy, bliss, coziness and love.

 

This blog is about downhome, honest food. This blog chimes with the vibe of love, simple joys and blissfulness of life. So, what could better describe that feeling other than these three words? “Fried Green Tomatoes”; it had to be

You know, I believe that kitchen is the place in a house where true happiness can be found. And without much fuss too! I see a delicious, hearty, home cooked meal as a surefire way to a joyful heart. And that’s what all the recipes on ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ are about.

Being a professionally trained culinarian, a certified fitness trainer and a student of nutrition, I’m all about a satisfied heart and a well-nourished body. So not only tasty but clean healthy cooking is very important to me. I honor and celebrate “real food”, food closest possible to its natural form that is. I try to keep the usage of processed ingredients to a minimal, and most of my recipes are oil free, low salt and refined sugar free. I’m up for occasional indulgence though. Yeah, everyone is allowed a ‘cheat meal’ once in a while!

 

My recipes, most of the time, are also free of gluten. I have gluten sensitivity myself, so I always look for an opportunity to come up with an ‘allowed’ version of the usual recipes that contain the allergen.

 

Just like clean healthy eating, I care a lot about having a clean healthy planet too. I have turned vegan in 2018 and unquestionably that’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life! So, all the recipes you’ll find here are exclusively plant based. I assure you though; you’ll enjoy them lip-smackingly even if you are an omnivore.

All the recipes you’ll find here can be made in a modest kitchen, with everyday gadgets and easily available ingredients. Shopping at your local grocery stores or any chain mega mart should be sufficed. If any ingredient sounds too exotic, shall I tell you the name of an “ingredient fairy” that can help you find it? Shhh, tell no one, her name is ‘amazon.com’! And if there is anything that you cannot find in any way, I promise, I’ll tell you what to sub that with and yet, not compromise the taste.

 

I totally appreciate how busy everybody’s schedule is and that’s why I’m a huge fan of batch cooking. Almost all of my recipes here will allow you to cook delicious meals in big batches and keep for days. When you have a long, hectic day and the last thing you wanna do is spending time in the kitchen, you can just take ‘em out of the fridge, heat ‘em up and enjoy!
